Brazilian team São Paulo have terminated the contract of striker Pedrinho amid accusations of domestic violence against the Brazilian player. The club announced on Friday that Pedrinho is no longer part of the club, in an official statement. The 23-year-old had arrived at São Paulo on loan from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow until the end of the season.
“São Paulo Futebol Clube announces the termination of the contract with striker Pedrinho. The measure was taken by the Club after a careful and thorough assessment by the Legal and Compliance departments, in light of the known facts about the case involving the player“, read São Paulo’s statement.
The decision comes on the back of allegations of domestic violence made against the player by his ex-girlfriend Amanda Nunes. The player has been training with the rest of the squad at CT da Barra Funda, but hasn’t played since February 25, his last match being against São Bernardo in the Paulista. Since then, he has been away on leave.
It is said that the case came to light at the beginning of March, with the São Paulo police investigating the matter and a case was registered against Pedrinho for domestic violence, threats, wounding and bodily injury.
According to the police, the victim had shown his injuries, which were photographed and attached for investigation. The player was later called to testify.
Earlier in the day, the club had issued a statement saying that it would take the appropriate measures in line with the police investigations.
According to a report by ESPN Brasil, Amando told the police that the player had ‘exploded’ for no reason and, according to her, threatened to kill her and make her disappear if she reported the violence. The victim had reported that her hair was pulled by the athlete and that he also assaulted her.
Pedrinho played 10 games for São Paulo, scoring 10 goals, including a beautiful goal against Inter de Limeira.
