Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde secured third place in the 2022/23 season of the Superliga, one of the strongest volleyball leagues in the world. Despite facing physical challenges and injuries, the team managed to secure 17 wins in 22 games, finishing with the second best record in the qualifying phase.
The team had to overcome several obstacles throughout the season. American Micaya and Poland’s Mali Smarzek underwent knee arthroscopies, while winger Glayce suffered a serious injury with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. However, the players had the support of the club’s sponsor, São Cristóvão Saúde, which provided them with the structure and resources they needed to recover and perform at their best.
Coach Luizomar praised the team’s resilience and determination, saying that the result is a source of pride and motivation for next season. The team’s ability to overcome challenges was reflected in their performance, with several players achieving outstanding individual performances.
According to the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), Tiffany, the team’s point guard, was the Superliga’s top scorer with 491 hits. She also came first in terms of regularity, with 5.28 points per set. Two other Osasco players also topped the statistics, with Natinha the best passer with a 74% reception rate and Adenízia the leader in blocks with 86.
The team’s success this season highlights the importance of teamwork, perseverance and the support of sponsors and medical staff. As the season draws to a close, Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde are already looking ahead to next season, eager to build on their achievements and overcome any challenges that may come their way.
