Bahia beat Vasco da Gama 1-0 in the Brasileiro Série A on Monday. Thaciano (44′) scored the only goal of the game just before half-time, showing great composure in front of goal to give Bahia the win.
Despite Vasco’s dominance in possession, with 55% of the ball, and 17 shots compared to Bahia’s 11, they failed to convert their chances in front of goal.
An excellent performance from Bahia goalkeeper Marcos Felipe also played a crucial role in keeping Vasco at bay, saving 6 shots on target. In the end, it was Thaciano’s goal that made the difference between the two teams.
Bahia’s victory lifted them to 15th in the league table with their first win of the season. Meanwhile, Vasco da Gama are in 9th place with 4 points, which includes a win, a draw and a defeat in each of their three games.
The defeat was a bitter blow for Vasco, especially as they dominated much of the game. Vasco will now look to bounce back in their next match and return to winning ways.
Vasco will travel to face Fluminense on Saturday, May 6, while Bahia will host Coritiba on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
