Manchester United beat Brighton 7-6 on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
Roberto De Zerbi’s team dominated the game. Mac Allister tested David de Gea with an early free-kick, although the Spaniard got his angles right. Fernandes also tested Sanchez with a rebound from outside the area, but the goalkeeper turned it away. The Portuguese midfielder threw the ball to Rashford, who cut the ball back for Eriksen, whose rebound was well saved by Sanchez just before the end of the first half.
In the second half, the goalkeepers made spectacular saves from shots by Enciso and Rashford.
As the opponents failed to score in the 90 minutes of regular time and 30 minutes of extra time, a penalty shootout awaited the crowd. The players from both teams took five penalty kicks to perfection. Mac Allister scored first for Brighton, but Casemiro equalized. Pascal Gross took the penalty in the top corner and Diogo Dalot also converted. Deniz Undav and Sancho scored their penalties, while Pervis Estupinan and Rashford also converted. Lewis Dunk also scored, although Sanchez hit Sabitzer’s shot but couldn’t prevent it – 5-5.
So a series of attacks began until the first mistake. Webster and Weghorst were precise, but March shot well over the gate. Lindelof’s return kick took Manchester United to the final. Manchester City will be waiting for them at Wembley Stadium on June 3.
