The Warriors advanced to the Western Conference semi-finals when Stephen Curry scored 50 points in game seven against the Sacramento Kings. Curry’s excellent effort led him to set the NBA record for most points scored in a game seven, breaking the previous mark of 48 points held by his former teammate, Kevin Durant.
The Warriors had a difficult start to the series, losing the first two games, but recovered with three consecutive wins. However, a home loss set the stage for a decisive contest in Sacramento, where Curry put in a game-changing performance.
Curry’s incredible ball skills were on full display as he hit 20 of 38 shots, including seven 3-pointers, to help the Warriors defend their championship. Curry’s teammate and Splash’s brother, Klay Thompson, dubbed the competition “the Steph Curry game”.
The Kings, who ended a 16-year postseason drought under coach of the year Mike Brown, fought hard at the start, but couldn’t stop Curry and the Warriors’ three main players. Despite the best efforts of De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, the Kings were finally defeated by the Warriors’ firepower.
The win sets up a thrilling Western Conference semi-final between the Warriors and LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers. The two teams have a long history of meeting in the NBA Finals, dating back to James’ time in Cleveland.
When the final buzzer sounded, Steve Kerr (Warriors coach) embraced Brown (his former assistant), who had already managed the Warriors’ post-season affairs during Kerr’s prolonged health absence, and had just led the Kings’ remarkable turnaround. The emotional moment served as a reminder of the two coaches’ friendship and the influence they had on each other’s careers.
Overall, the game will be remembered as one of the greatest individual performances by a player in a game seven, and Warriors fans will be hoping that Curry can carry his good form into the next round of the playoffs.
