Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave an interesting post-match press conference after his side secured a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest. Diogo Jota scored twice for Liverpool, cancelling out goals from Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White, before Mohamed Salah scored the winner.
Klopp feels that his team is defending “much better”. The German coach interrupted a question from the media, asking reporters if they could remember when Liverpool had won two games in a row.
The journalists replied that Liverpool had won back-to-back games last month after beating Manchester United 7-0. They also achieved a similar feat in February, beating Newcastle.
However, after recent 3-0 defeats to Brighton and Wolves, and shock defeats to Bournemouth and Manchester City, Klopp felt that the last time he won consecutive games was last year.
He was trying to establish a point that things have changed since they drew with Arsenal on April 9. The Premier League giants are now four games unbeaten in the league, their best run in a season marked by inconsistency.
“Things have changed, the way we defend is much better, centered on the ball and compact,” said Klopp.
“I saw a lot of cutting-edge counter-attacks today. That’s very important to us. We’re much better in that department. It seems to have changed. If you are solid, aggressive and positive in your defense, you can build on that. For me, it’s the first time this season that we’ve had that. Late, but I hope it’s not too late” he added.
Liverpool’s quest for Champions League places is going well. They are six points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, with 50 points from 31 games.
This season hasn’t been good enough and Klopp knows it. However, if the Reds win their remaining seven games, they could reach a maximum of 71 points.
