In a knockout match in the last 16 of the Lipa Europa UEFA, the Reds beat Barcelona 4-3 to knock the Spaniards out of the competition.
After the match, Garnacho posted a suggestive image on Twitter, apparently mocking Barcelona and their midfielder Pedri. The Argentinian shared a photo in which he can be seen copying Pedri’s well-known celebration, the ‘Binocular’, and captioned it: “big team passes“.
Garnacho’s tweet, just 18 years old, was only a hit with fans of Manchester and Real Madrid, Barcelona’s main Spanish rivals. The young player, known for his sympathy for the ‘Merengues’, played his first match against Barcelona in his professional career.
Obviously, the post had a generally negative repercussion. Club Atlético Colón coach Pipo Gorosito harshly criticized the Manchester United striker for making fun of Barcelona on his social networks after the Spanish giant’s difficult UEFA Europa League match.
The coach pointed out that this did not befit a professional player, and was extremely disrespectful to Barcelona.
He went on to say: “I would have slapped Garnacho in the face. You need to show him what’s good and what’s bad. He’s going to make mistakes because he’s only 18. That’s how life works. If he was one of my kids, I’d hit him on the neck with an open hand. That’s how I think” said Gorosito.
Garnacho has just been called up to the Argentina squad, with the reigning world champions playing their first matches since winning the World Cup in December. Argentina will face Panama and Curaçao in friendly matches soon, and it is widely expected that the Manchester United star will make his international debut.
