Brendan Rodgers, who became manager of Leicester City Football Club in February 2019, left the team after a series of disappointing performances that left them in the relegation zone.
Rodgers’ departure was announced in a statement released by the club on Monday. The statement thanked Rodgers for his contribution to the team and wished him well in his future endeavors.
In the four years under Rogers, the team has made great progress. They won two trophies in 2021: the FA Cup by beating Chelsea 1-0 and the Super Cup by beating Manchester City 1-0. The coach helped Leicester finish fifth in the league twice. With the exception of the championship in the 2015/16 season, these were the greatest results in the club’s history in the Premier League. And last season, he led the team to their first European semi-final, losing 1-1, 0-1 to Italian side Roma, one step before the Conference League final.
But club owners and fans are worried about the current situation. Leicester City have struggled in recent weeks, without a win in their last five games. The club’s poor run of form has seen them drop to 19th in the standings, just one point above Southampton, who are in last place.
Rodgers’ departure came as a surprise to many fans, as the coach had said he was committed to staying at the club and helping it improve. However, it seems that the team’s recent defeats have been too much for Rodgers to take.
In his statement, Rodgers thanked the club’s fans and players for their support during his time at Leicester City. He also expressed his disappointment with the team’s recent performances, saying that he had done everything he could to try and turn things around.
“I am deeply saddened to be leaving Leicester City, a club that has meant so much to me over the last two years,” said Rodgers. “I’ve given my all for this team, but unfortunately our recent form hasn’t been good enough. I wish the club and its fans all the best for the future.”
Leicester City have yet to announce who will take over as manager after Rodgers’ departure. However, there are already rumors that former Everton manager Rafa Benitez and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino are the favorites to take over.
Regardless of who takes over as manager, they will have a tough task ahead of them as they try to lift Leicester City out of the relegation zone in the Premier League table. With just nine games remaining, Leicester will need to start picking up points quickly if they are to avoid relegation this season.
