Botafogo, leaders of the Brazilian Championship, have had one of their players called up to the Brazilian national team for this Sunday’s international matches. Defender Adryelson has been called up by coach Fernando Diniz, and the 25-year-old will be in the team for the next match. Brazil will face Uruguay on October 17 at the Estadio Centenario in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
This is the first time the Botafogo player has been called up to the national team. The young defender went straight to the Champion of the Century Stadium, owned by Peñarol, where the national team is currently training.
In an interview, Adryelson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and for the trust placed in him by the coaching staff. “It’s an incredible moment and I can only thank God for the opportunity and the coaching staff for their trust. I came here to help, to do my best and to help my teammates and the coach in any way I can“, said the man from Maranhão.
Adryelson was called up after Nino, who suffered a sprained left knee in training last Saturday. Although it’s not a serious injury, it will prevent the Fluminense player from taking part in the next match against Uruguay. Adryelson’s career in soccer took him up through the youth ranks at Sport Recife. He was then loaned out to Palmeiras’ under-20 team and had a spell at Al-Wasl in Dubai before joining Botafogo.
As a defender, Adryelson joins a list that includes Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães and Bremer. When Brazil face Uruguay, expectations of the youngster will be high.
