Brazilian star Vinicius Jr. has dropped a major bombshell by revealing a promise he made to his father before joining Real Madrid. Vinicius had promised that he would return to Flamengo at some point in his career and gave his word to his father at the time Real Madrid called him. The winger mentioned that he intended to keep his promise later in his career.
“I think I could stay here at Real Madrid for the rest of my career, but Flamengo is the club of my life. I promised my father I’d come back one day. I have to honor that promise“.
Vinicius began his career at Flamengo before he was 11 years old. Although he left the club in mid-2018, he retains links with the Rubro-Negro and received a recent tribute at the iconic Maracanã stadium, before Flamengo faced Vasco in the Brazilian top flight. Vinicius Jr.’s spell in Flamengo’s first team was a short two seasons. He was sold to Real Madrid shortly after making his professional debut. In that brief period, he made 69 appearances and scored 14 goals for the club before moving to Spain.
Vinicius was incredibly successful during his time at Real Madrid, lifting the Champions League trophy in 2022. In addition to the praise, Vinicius has established himself as one of the best players in the world, having been put on the same level as the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
