Fábio Santos, Corinthians’ experienced left-back, shared his thoughts on the team’s resilience after a challenging week that included elimination from the Copa Sudamericana. Santos was instrumental in securing a 1-1 draw with Flamengo at the Arena Neo Química, scoring Corinthians’ only goal.
Despite his age of 38 and his physical limitations, Santos emphasized his unwavering commitment to contribute whenever asked. In an interview after the match, he reflected on his dedication throughout his career, saying: “By default, now that I’m 38, I’m not going to put my head on the pillow and say: ‘Why didn’t I play? Today wasn’t really a game to play. I hadn’t played two games in a row, but to play for Corinthians you have to have courage, and throughout my career I’ve had courage.“
Santos acknowledged that the current moment may not be ideal, but playing for a prestigious club like Corinthians requires unwavering dedication, even in challenging times. He expressed his gratitude for his goal and for the opportunity to take part in important matches.
“We’ve had a very difficult sequence in the Brazilian Championship, but we showed character today, in a difficult week in which everyone suffered a lot,” said Santos. He highlighted the team’s performance against a formidable opponent and praised the determination of the team, who were looking for a win to get out of their difficult position in the league.
With the upcoming FIFA break, Corinthians will have almost two weeks of uninterrupted training. Their next game is scheduled for October 18 against Fluminense at the Maracanã, providing an opportunity for the team to regroup and prepare for the challenges ahead.
