Flamengo defender Fabrício Bruno wasn’t satisfied with his team’s performance in the 1-1 draw with Corinthians in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship at the Arena Neo Química. The Rubro-Negro were playing away from home on Saturday and opened the scoring with a fine goal from Gerson, but the São Paulo club had restored equality the night before through Fábio Santos, who scored from the penalty spot.
After the match, Bruno admitted that Flamengo were punished for “prioritizing defense”, as he felt that the visitors created many chances, but were unlucky with the penalty awarded to Corinthians.
“We left with a feeling of sadness, we know we had great control of the game, in the second half we needed to play a bit more. I think we prioritized defense too much, and then a team that creates volume, volume, volume, unfortunately the penalty happened” said Fabrício.
“But I’m happy with the way we’re working, with the delivery here. There was never a lack of delivery. So now it’s time to work, I’m going to look at the details of this FIFA Data and get on with the championship, there’s a lot of championship ahead of us” he added.
According to reports, the seven-time champions are negotiating with former Brazilian national team coach Tite, who is currently a free agent to take over as the new coach.
When asked about the possibility of Tite arriving at Flamengo, the defender praised the coach and said that he would also continue to support Mário Jorge.
“I think that if a Tite were to come, he would be very welcome. He’s a coach who needs no comment, there’s no need to say anything about him. CV and career speak for themselves” said the 27-year-old.
The Brazilian added: “But that’s up to the board. Although we haven’t defined who the coach is, our coach is Mário Jorge. We’ll accept everything he asks of us and give ourselves body and soul to him and the club.“
Flamengo face stiff competition from Fluminense and will return to the field on October 19 against Cruzeiro after the international break.
