Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has expressed his belief that Novak Djokovic, despite being 36, still has the potential to add a few more Grand Slam titles to his impressive collection. Djokovic, who turned 36 in May, reached the finals of all four Grand Slam events this year. His only failure was at Wimbledon, where he narrowly lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling five-set final.
Speaking on the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast, Kyrgios praised Djokovic, calling him the greatest tennis player of all time. He highlighted Djokovic’s remarkable achievement of winning 24 Grand Slam titles, making him the first male player to reach that milestone. Kyrgios also predicted that Djokovic’s illustrious career is far from over, suggesting that he has the potential to secure several more Grand Slam victories.
Kyrgios also emphasized that Djokovic often doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his incredible achievements in the sport. He praised Djokovic’s longevity, noting that the Serb has been a dominant force on the professional tour for almost two decades.
Djokovic’s most recent Grand Slam triumph was at the US Open, when he beat Daniil Medvedev to win his 24th Major title. After his victory, Djokovic joked about the possibility of continuing to play professional tennis for another 23 or 24 years. He reiterated that he has no immediate plans to retire from the sport and is not fixated on a specific number of Grand Slam titles.
Although Djokovic refrained from setting a specific target, he made it clear that winning more Grand Slam titles remains his top priority. He emphasized that these prestigious tournaments will continue to be his main focus in the coming seasons, regardless of how many more years he continues to compete.
Currently tied with Margaret Court for the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic has his sights set on making history in 2024. He aims to become the first tennis player, male or female, to secure 25 Grand Slam victories, solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s greatest icons.
