Since Deco joined Barcelona as sporting director, the Catalans have had their eye on many Brazilian talents. In the summer window, Xavi’s men signed Vitor Roque and are trying to add Gabriel Moscardo to their wish list. São Paulo player Lucas Beraldo is the latest name to be linked with the La Liga giants.
The central defender, who is only 19, has been catching the eye with his solid displays. Despite joining the club in 2020, the youngster has already made a total of 42 appearances, establishing himself as one of the team’s key players.
Beraldo is known for his maturity, despite his age, and the left-footed defender has stood out with his technique and skill, qualities that have left some of his teammates stunned in training.
The youngster has a contract until 2026, but he could still be on his way to Europe. According to journalist Gabriel Sá, Barcelona have been closely monitoring the player’s progress and there is a possibility that the club will make an offer for the Brazilian at the end of the year.
Naturally, São Paulo would not be willing to give up their star player and, according to reports, are willing to pay 15 million euros for Beraldo if Barcelona want to sign the youngster.
Another journalist, Jorge Nicola, also revealed that not only Barcelona but also Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion are watching Lucas. São Paulo have a 60 million release clause in the defender’s current contract, but could accept an offer much lower than that.
The São Paulo club is currently in 10th place in Serie A of the Brazilian Championship and will be in action on October 8. São Paulo will travel to Vasco da Gama on Sunday in the hope of retaining their place in the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are second in La Liga, trailing Real Madrid by a single point ahead of their game against Granada later this week.
