Clemont – PSG – 0:0
In a relatively open game, PSG had their fair share of chances to open the scoring. Despite fatigue concerns, Kylian Mbappé was in the starting line-up and remained a constant threat throughout the game. His attempted swerve in the 32nd minute, however, failed to trouble Clermont goalkeeper Diaw. Mbappé received crosses from Kolo Muani, Dembélé and Hakimi, but failed to take advantage of the chances. Even in injury time, a golden opportunity to take the lead slipped through their fingers.
Clermont Foot, on the other hand, had their moments in the match. PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma had to be alert in the first half, making crucial saves to stop Nicholson and Magnin. Donnarumma’s reflexes were put to the test once again when he saved a powerful long-range shot from Konaté.
In the 80th minute, PSG’s hopes of securing a late win were dashed when Mbappé’s penalty claim was denied. Instead, the referee showed him a yellow card for simulation after a collision with Seidu.
This result also marks an unusual statistic for PSG, as it is the first time in the Qatari era, after seven matches, that the team has been goalless on two occasions. After seven games, the reigning champions are in fifth place, two points behind the leaders. The draw had a positive impact for Clermont Foot, as it lifted them off the bottom of the table and into 17th place.
The only Brazilian player on the pitch, Marquinhos, had a steady performance in the left-back position. He wisely avoided venturing too far forward, a prudent decision considering the attacking prowess of PSG’s left flank.
