Atalanta – Juventus – 0:0
Juventus and Atalanta struggled to advance in the Serie A race as they played out a goalless draw in a very tight match on Sunday. Although both teams had their moments and Atalanta scored on more than one occasion, neither side managed to open the scoring in Bergamo.
This result leaves Juventus in fourth place, trailing league leaders Inter Milan and second-placed AC Milan by four points after seven games. Atalanta, meanwhile, are just one point behind Juventus. Both came into this game in good shape. Atalanta had won three in a row in all competitions without conceding a goal, while Juventus had won three of their last four matches.
The first half saw few chances, with a very tight battle on the pitch. Davide Zappacosta had a golden chance to put Atalanta ahead in the 14th minute, but his initial shot was blocked by Juventus defender Danilo and he was unable to convert the rebound from close range, sending it wide of the right post.
Juventus had their best chance at the start of the second half when Federico Chiesa launched a powerful shot, but Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso parried the ball away. In response, Juventus’ Wojciech Szczęsny made a spectacular save 15 minutes from time, managing to deflect a brilliant free-kick from Luis Muriel onto the crossbar. The ball rebounded and hit the goalkeeper’s back before going wide. In the 89th minute, Muriel shot from outside the area, Szczesny put the ball in front of him, but Kopmeiners shot high from the corner of the goal area.
