Manchester United have officially given Brazilian winger Antony permission to continue training, despite the cloud of allegations surrounding him, including domestic abuse. The 23-year-old star was recently at the center of controversy, but no immediate limits were imposed on him after a conversation with Greater Manchester Police.
Antony, crucially, categorically denied these accusations and offered extensive evidence in his defense. It is important to note that neither Brazil nor the United Kingdom arrested or charged him.
The club emphasized its position as Antony’s employer in an official statement and declared its decision to allow him to return to training at Carrington. This action puts him at the disposal of the national team while police investigations into the case continue. However, Antony will not take part in training and his participation in United’s next Premier League match against Crystal Palace at Old-Trafford has been ruled out.
Man United had granted Antony leave on full pay to look into allegations made by three different women, including his ex-partner. According to the media, the most serious of these accusations stems from an event that took place in a Manchester hotel room in January. Antony is accused of hitting him with a headbutt, causing a head injury that required medical attention.
Man United strongly condemned the acts of aggression and abuse and is committed to protecting all those involved in this complex issue. The club appreciates the tremendous impact it can have on survivors of abuse.
Antony, recognized for his career potential and skill, made his debut for the Brazilian national soccer team on October 7, 2021, scoring a decisive goal in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela. He was in the Brazil team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
