Atlético – Cádiz – 3:2
Despite dominating the game early on (Griezmaan hit the post in the third minute), Atlético found themselves at a disadvantage when Cádiz stunned the hosts by going 1-0 up in the 12th minute. It was left-back Lucas Pires who took advantage of Chris Ramos’ well-placed cross from the right to score from close range.
Cádiz extended their lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute when Roger Marti curled in a first-time shot, taking advantage of a brilliant long-range save by goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma. Few play so boldly at the Metropolitan. However, Atlético’s Angel Correa started the counter-attack, scoring a header from the middle of the box just five minutes later.
The equalizer came quickly after the break, when Nahuel Molina’s powerful shot deflected off a defender and into the back of the net. It was Correa again who sealed the win for Diego Simeone’s side in the 65th minute, taking advantage of a quick counter-attack.
It was Correa’s third goal in five league games. It’s worth remembering that the player was recovering from an injury suffered in the derby against Real Madrid. With this victory, Atlético de Madrid moved up to fourth place in the LaLiga standings with 16 points, just five points behind leaders Real Madrid. The team has a game in hand, which increases their hopes of competing for the title.
The only Brazilian player representing Atlético made a crucial contribution, as Samuel Lino’s pass to Saulo in the box was key to creating the winning goal. It was another example of exceptional skill and precision. Meanwhile, Cádiz left-back Lucas Pires scored the first goal of the game and consistently showed a high level of energy and dynamism throughout the match.
Almeria – Granada – 3:3
Luis Suárez (namesake of Grêmio’s Uruguayan striker) scored 4 goals for Almería during the whole period. This season, he fulfilled this “norm” until the eighth round.
Until the 41st minute of the match against Granada, the opponents exchanged chances, and then the Colombian scored three times in 6 minutes! It’s true that this rarely happens in the higher divisions. But it’s even less common for teams to bounce back after trailing 0-3. The Champions League final in Istanbul immediately springs to mind, when Milan went into the break 3-0 up against Liverpool, but conceded three goals in the second half and lost on penalties.
This time, the situation was no less dramatic. In the 56th minute, Puertas had the chance to reduce the deficit, but he couldn’t beat the keeper from the penalty spot. Many teams would have completely lost heart after that, but Granada won another penalty in the 66th minute – Zaragoza were precise. In the 70th minute, Sanchez scored again and in the 86th minute, Uzuni equalized – 3-3!
And that’s not all. In the 98th minute, Melero could have given Almeria the win, but he hit the post! And it’s not over yet! In the 90th minute, Granada’s Fernandez also hit the post. Although the teams are in last and second-to-last place in the table, the game turned out to be incredible.
