Thomas Tuchel’s side traveled to the Red Bull Arena with the aim of reducing Bayer Leverkusen’s lead at the top of the table, but ended up losing in the first half. With a spirited second-half performance, the Bavarians picked up a point and remain in third place, while Leipzig are in fifth.
Just two minutes after the kick-off, Kane opened up the Leipzig defense, sending Jamal Musiala through on goal, but the German couldn’t beat Janis Blaswich. Emil Forsberg almost opened the scoring at the other end. Sven Ulreich’s misplaced pass fell at the Swede’s feet, but he couldn’t keep out his long-range attempt and the ball went narrowly wide.
Openda then opened the scoring, receiving a pass from Forsberg, beating Kim Min-jae in a foot-to-foot race and finishing accurately for Ulreich, who was close to his goal. The German failed to clear a corner and was caught in no man’s land as Lukeba smashed the ball into the net to put Die Roten Bullen 2-0 up before the break.
After the restart, Bayern got a huge relief when Sane gave his side a penalty. The VAR ruled that Lukeba handled the ball and Kane took the penalty to halve the deficit.
Raphael Guerreiro came close with a shot from the edge of the box, but Sane made it 2-2 when he received a pass from Musiala when Leipzig were caught on the counter-attack, and the former Manchester City man finished against Blaswich to restore equality. Benjamin Sesko came close to scoring twice, but failed to get an accurate touch on both occasions, before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had a header saved by Blaswich.
