Uruguayan midfielders Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Luiz Araújo trained with the Flamengo squad on Thursday and will be available for the Copa do Brasil final, which will be held on Sunday afternoon at the Morumbi Stadium.
The pair have taken an important step in their recovery and will only be excluded from the list of players traveling if there are any setbacks in Friday’s training session at the Ninho do Urubu. It has not yet been decided whether the two players will be in the starting line-up. If Arrascaeta is able to play for more than 45 minutes, he will start the match in Morumbi, according to reports.
Recent results have not been what the Brazilian giants had hoped for, with poor results in the Copa do Brasil and disappointment in the Copa Libertadores. One of the highest-ranking clubs in the rich history of Brazilian soccer, Flamengo’s fall was a big surprise, and their recent form is proof of that fact. In their last ten games, the team from Rio de Janeiro have won just three and lost four.
Despite the setbacks to their form, the team managed to reach the final of the Copa do Brasil, but conceded the lead to São Paulo, who are in the driving seat to win the coveted trophy. In a disaster of epic proportions, the team was eliminated by Olimpia in the Copa Libertadores with a 3-1 defeat in the second leg after a poor performance at home in the first leg.
Promising performances against Gremio and Botafogo in the last month have raised hopes of a return to top form, and the team is hoping that the returns of Araújo and Arrascaeta will boost their results.
