Fortaleza managed to win by 2-1 against São Paulo in Serie AA significant part of that result can be attributed to the almost flawless performance of goalkeeper João Ricardo, who even saved a penalty from James Rodríguez in the first half. João Ricardo praised the team’s effort, emphasizing the challenge of playing away from home and praising the squad for holding on to the result. He acknowledged the importance of rest in preparation for the upcoming matches.
“It’s important to praise the team for their commitment. Playing here is difficult, and I want to congratulate the team for getting the win. Now it’s time to rest because we have more games next week” said João Ricardo.
Reflecting on the match, the goalkeeper analyzed Fortaleza’s performance. He noted that the first half was challenging, as São Paulo had control of the match, but coach Vojvoda instructed the team to press more and keep possession, which helped neutralize the opposition.
“The first half was very difficult; we defended well and São Paulo had control of the game. Vojvoda instructed us to press more and keep possession, and we managed to neutralize them” he added.
Fortaleza’s next Serie A match is against Grêmio at the Arena Castelão on Saturday, September 30. Before that, the team faces Corinthians in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana semi-final on Tuesday, September 26, at the Arena Neo Química. Fortaleza have had a good campaign in the Brazilian Championship, currently occupying seventh place in the standings. The recent run of seven wins in the last eight games has given a huge boost to the team’s campaign, as they fight to secure a top-four finish in the league, a feat they previously achieved in 2021.
