In a Campeonato Brasileiro clash on Tuesday (September 19), América-MG faced a challenging battle against Red Bull Bragantino at the Independência stadium in Belo Horizonte. The result was not at all favorable for América-MG, who were beaten 2-0 by Massa Bruta.
The match unfolded in dramatic fashion. Eight minutes into the first half, Azevedo hit the crossbar of the visitors’ goal. In the 36th minute, midfielder Yadsom Silva opened the scoring for Bragantino. In the 90th minute, a handball by Fernandez in the box gave América the chance to equalize, but Mastriani shot over the goalkeeper. These chances need to be taken. The inspired guests managed to score again in the 90th minute. Midfielder Lucas Evangelista scored.
América-MG’s performance left a lot to be desired, with the team failing to repeat its previous successes. The team struggled to create chances and saw Red Bull Bragantino dominate the match, which led to a chorus of booing from the home fans.
This result further complicates América-MG’s situation in the Brasileirão. The team remains in the relegation zone, occupying penultimate place with 17 points, despite having a game in hand. Goiás, just above the relegation zone, have accumulated 25 points. Red Bull Bragantino, meanwhile, have provisionally climbed to third place in the league standings with 42 points.
América-MG’s next challenge will be on Monday (September 25), at 8pm (Brasília time), at the Independência stadium, with the aim of reversing the situation in a rescheduled match from the 15th round of the Brasileirão. Meanwhile, Red Bull Bragantino will host Palmeiras on Sunday (October 1) at 6:30pm at the Nabi Abi Chedid stadium in Bragança Paulista in the 25th round of the championship.
Despite an early chance for América-MG, Red Bull Bragantino’s control of possession and effective attacking eventually secured victory in this Brazilian Championship clash.
