Real Madrid have won five out of five games and reclaimed top spot in the La Liga standings. The team had to work hard to come from behind to beat Real Sociedad 2-1 and continue their winning streak.
Jude Bellingham failed to score for the first time this season, but Federico Valverde and Joselu helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat a lively La Real outfit at home on Sunday night.
The hosts could have been ahead as early as the second minute, when David Alaba tested Alex Remiro from close range, but Bellingham was ruled offside before provoking the Austrian. At the other end, Madrid were caught by surprise when Takefusa Kubo’s fine pass found Ander Barrenetxea, whose first-time shot was well saved by Kepa, but he couldn’t hold on to the rebound.
Kubo almost hurt his former club again when he put the ball in the back of the net in the 10th minute, but the Japanese striker was unable to score the goal of the season because Mikel Oyarzabal was in an offside position.
Remiro then found himself in trouble with a misplaced pass on the other side, Dani Carvajal laid it off to Joselu, who hit the crossbar, and somehow the ball reached Carvajal again, who passed to Rodrygo, but the Brazilian’s acrobatic shot missed the target.
Mikel Merino was saved by an excellent save from Kepa as Real ended the first half trailing 0-1. Ancelotti’s pep talk at half-time worked wonders, and Real Madrid equalized 41 seconds after the restart.
Valverde’s long ball found Rodrygo, who passed to Fran Garcia, the left-back passed to Valverde, who sent the ball into the goal from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later, the turnaround was complete: Garcia provided the second assist by finding Joselu unmarked at the back post, who headed in Madrid’s second goal.
Bellingham almost scored a third goal just before the end of regulation time, but his header was saved by Merino. Brazilian striker Rodrygo had an average game, tried to do everything himself and was replaced in the 87th minute by Brahim.
