In a surprising turn of events, Atlético-MG secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Campeonato Brasileiro leaders Botafogo on matchday 23. The match, held at the MRV Arena in Belo Horizonte, had Paulinho as Atlético-MG’s hero, scoring the decisive goal that halted Botafogo’s impressive run.
The much-anticipated clash got off to a tight start, with both teams initially struggling to find the back of the net. In the first half, Perry saved the visitors after free-kicks from Lemos and Pavón.
The turning point came in the 81st minute, when Paulinho took advantage of a precise pass from Pedrinho and shot the ball past Botafogo goalkeeper Gatito Fernández. That brilliant goal secured victory for Atlético-MG and overturned Botafogo’s lead in the league.
Diego Costa managed to score for Botafogo in the 89th minute, but from an offside position, adding to the Rio de Janeiro side’s frustration. But it’s their own fault, they didn’t put a shot on goal all game.

Vasco vs Fluminense – 4:2
