The Gunners looked to be suffering an embarrassing defeat to relegation candidates Southampton, conceding goals from Carlos Alcaraz, who opened the scoring, before Theo Walcott doubled the lead in the 14th minute. Southampton were close to recording their first away win in the Premier League against Arsenal, until the Gunners came back to draw and secure a point.
After Gabriel Martinelli scored to reduce the gap, Arsenal’s hopes were diminished when Southampton substitute Duje Caleta-Car scored the visitors’ third goal. With time running out, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard came to the team’s rescue by scoring a well-worked goal to give Arsenal some respect.
In a dramatic finish, Bukayo Saka scored the equalizer in the final moments, ending an Arsenal comeback. In stoppage time, substitute Leandro Trossard hit the post in what could have given the Gunners a win.
Arsenal’s quest for the Premier League title suffered another setback as this was their third draw in a row, leaving them with a five-point lead over defending champions Manchester City, who now hold the advantage in the title race with two games in hand.
