Rafael Nadal is scheduled to take part in the draw ceremony for the 2023 Madrid Open, but his participation in the Masters 1000 event is uncertain. According to recent reports in Mallorca’s Diario Español, the 22-time Grand Slam champion is contractually obliged to attend the draw ceremony for the second clay Masters event of the season, which is scheduled for April 23.
According to reports, Nadal and his team, led mainly by coach Carlos Moya, recently visited Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro in Barcelona to assess the status of his hip injury. However, the full extent of the diagnosis is still unknown. He suffered the injury during the Australian Open, where he suffered a second-round defeat to Mackenzie McDonald, and it prevented the former world number one from taking part in several tournaments, including the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open doubles.
Echoing the same line, Rafael Nadal’s uncle, Toni, recently revealed that his nephew will only return to the courts when he has fully recovered. Acknowledging that Rafael played the Australian Open without being fully fit, Toni Nadal said that the tennis player will not make the same mistake and will aim to arrive at the French Open in good physical shape.
“I spoke to him on Saturday. And he’ll only come back if he’s well, 100%. He knows that otherwise it won’t be good for him.”
