Anthony Edwards, one of the NBA’s most promising young players, made playoff history in the first round. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost the game despite a spectacular display in Game 2 of the season against the Denver Nuggets. However, Edwards’ 41-point explosion will go down in history as one of the league’s most remarkable offensive outings by a 21-year-old.
Edwards, who finished 16th in points per game and sixth in total points scored during the regular season, had a career game against the Nuggets in the second round. At just 21 years and 258 days old, he became the youngest competitor in the NBA to score at least 40 crucial points and make five three-pointers in a playoff game, shooting 14-23 from the field and 6-10 from three-point range.
Despite Edwards’ best efforts, the Timberwolves were defeated 128-120. The rookie point guard’s historic performance, on the other hand, kept his team in the game in the second half, giving them hope for the rest of the series.
Edwards joins a select club of 21-year-olds who have scored 40 or more points in a playoff game, with Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Ja Morant and also Tracy McGrady.
This isn’t the first time Edwards has impressed with his scoring prowess. He last scored 40 points against the Houston Rockets on January 8, and his effort in Game 2 against the Nuggets was one of his best offensive performances ever.
Despite their 0-2 series loss, the Timberwolves will return home for the next two games, hoping to use their home-court advantage to tie the series at 2-2, before returning to Denver for Game 5 next week. The Timberwolves and Nuggets will play the third game of their series at Target Center on Friday, April 21.
Anthony Edwards’ outstanding effort in Game 2 of the playoffs may not have resulted in a Timberwolves victory, but it confirmed his place as one of the NBA’s most promising young players to watch in the future.
