Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has rejected comments made by his driver Sergio Perez about the team’s supposed prioritization of just one driver before his arrival. Perez, who had previously competed for Racing Point, said that Red Bull had only fielded two drivers because of the regulations, and not because they wanted to have two equally competitive drivers. The Mexican driver also expressed his desire to receive the same level of support as his teammate and reigning world champion, Max Verstappen.
However, Horner quickly denied these allegations and said: “Well, that’s the first time I’ve heard him say that. We’ve always run two cars since we entered the sport in 2005 and we always want to have the two best drivers we can. in the car, and I think it’s great to see Checo doing such a good job now.“
In the second race of the season held in Jeddah, Sergio Perez emerged victorious after his teammate Max Verstappen was eliminated in the second qualifying phase due to mechanical problems. Verstappen struggled in the qualifying session and had to start from the back of the grid. However, he showed remarkable pace in the race and managed to finish in second place, earning an extra point for the fastest lap. This point could be important in the future, as Verstappen is aiming for a third consecutive world championship.
Perez’s recent comments have caused speculation about a possible rift between the Red Bull duo. After the race in Saudi Arabia, Perez also raised concerns about the team’s communication during the last lap.
Despite this, both drivers have performed well this season, with Verstappen currently leading the drivers’ standings and Perez just behind in second place. The Red Bull team also leads the constructors’ standings.
Perez’s statements may have been made in the context of his desire to receive more support from the team. However, his comments may also reflect the tensions and challenges that can arise in a highly competitive sport, where every driver wants to perform at their best and come out on top.
