Arsenal saw their lead at the top of the Premier League cut to just four points after another disappointing result, with Mikel Arteta’s side drawing 2-2 with West Ham United. The league leaders now have 74 points from 31 games, while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have 70 points from 30 games. Bukayo Saka had a glorious chance to end the game when Arsenal were leading 2-1 and was awarded a penalty, but the young Englishman missed. After the failure cost him dearly, Saka broke his silence on social media and promised to put things right.
“Regardless of the outcome, I will always accept my responsibility. I’m sorry, Gunners, I’ll do everything I can to fix it“, wrote the full-back on social media. After Saka’s missed penalty, Jared Bowen scored the equalizer for West Ham and the match ended 2-2, despite chances for both sides to increase the score.
Earlier in the day, Gabriel Jesus and Matin Odegaard put their names on the scoresheet to give Arteta’s side a two-goal lead inside the first ten minutes, before Said Benrahma scored from the penalty spot and Bowen’s goal snatched a point from the league leaders.
Jesus, in particular, has been in excellent form since returning from injury, the Brazilian striker scoring his third goal in four games since recovering from a problem he contracted during last year’s FIFA World Cup.
The former Manchester City player called on his teammates to raise their game after dropping points for the second week in a row after drawing 2-2 with Liverpool last week.
“Once again, the three points were in our hands. As a team, we have to raise the bar and return to our principles“Jesus told Arsenal’s official website.
“We know our strength, we know what we can do. Where we want to attack the opponent, in the first 10 to 20 minutes we were very good, after that we dropped the level and that obviously can’t happen if you want to fight for the title” he added.
