Manchester City 3-1 Leicester City
The reigning champions scored three goals in the first 24 minutes, with new signing Erling Haaland equaling Mohammed Salah’s tally of 32 Premier League goals in a single season. The gap between Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal narrowed to three points thanks to a flurry of goals against Dean Smith’s Leicester at the Etihad Stadium.
Before Erling Haaland scored twice more in the first half, the first from the penalty spot and the second assisted by Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones had opened the scoring. Haaland currently has 32 Premier League goals, one short of the record.
City opened the scoring in the fifth minute thanks to John Stones. Haaland made it 2-0 from the penalty spot. He placed it carefully in the bottom right-hand corner. In the 25th minute, he scored his second goal with an assist from De Bruyne.
On a miserable afternoon for interim manager Dean Smith, whose side are 19th with 25 points from 31 games in their fight to avoid relegation, former City player Kelechi Iheanacho reduced the deficit for Leicester in the 75th minute from a 3-0 deficit. They are behind the safety zone by two points.
With one game left to play for the Premier League title, Guardiola’s side, who are unbeaten in 14 games in all competitions, are three points behind leaders Arsenal.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 AFC Bournemouth
Heung-Min Son gave Spurs the lead in the 14th minute, but Matias Vina’s equalizer in the 38th minute and Dominic Solanke’s finish six minutes into the second half helped Bournemouth recover.
In the 88th minute, Arnaut Danjuma’s first league goal for Tottenham seemed to have avoided a 2-2 draw for the hosts. However, Bournemouth shocked Tottenham 3-2 with a last-second goal from Dango Ouattara, ending their hopes of finishing in the top four.
With 53 points from 31 games, Tottenham remain in fifth place, three points behind Newcastle and Manchester United, who have 29 and 30 games respectively. Spurs still have to play Manchester United later this month, as well as Newcastle the following weekend.
With three wins in their last four league games, Bournemouth are moving away from danger. They currently have 33 points, six more than second-last Nottingham Forest, and their chances of survival look much better.
Chelsea 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion
The Blues started the game positively, as Conor Gallagher’s deflected shot gave Chelsea a 1-0 lead. The goal also ended Chelsea’s run of four games without scoring. However, substitute Danny Welbeck equalized the game at Stamford Bridge for the visitors. Julio Enciso then scored to put Brighton ahead, and also in the hunt for European qualification.
Brighton are now seventh in the Premier League, five points ahead of Liverpool. They will also face Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals the following weekend. Meanwhile, Chelsea are stuck in 11th place. Under new coach Frank Lampard, the Blues lost all three games.
In other results, Fulham beat Everton 3-1, while Aston Villa beat Newcastle United 3-0. Wolverhampton Wanderers got the better of Brentford, while Southampton remain the worst-placed team in the Premier League this season with a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
