Lillard Damian, the celebrated All-Star point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers, is probably at a crossroads with his team after a difficult season. Lillard questioned the Blazers’ seriousness in creating a team capable of winning a championship around him after the club finished 13th in the Western Conference.
Despite his devotion to the Blazers, where he has spent his entire 11-year NBA career, Lillard has been open in his desire for the franchise to make changes to compete next season. In a recent appearance on ESPN’s “Stephen A’s World,” Lillard expressed his desire to see the Blazers build a championship-caliber team.
Lillard’s dedication to the club is evident, as he has performed at an All-NBA level this season, averaging 32.2 points, 7.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds. Unfortunately, the Blazers’ 33-49 record left them 7.0 games below the last Play-In seed, thus ending their season.
The Blazers face another summer with important decisions to make. The Blazers are vying for the first pick of the draft in the upcoming Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. If they don’t get the first pick, The Athletic’s Jason Quick believes the team would probably trade their lottery pick.
The desire to win a title in Portland remains strong for Lillard. Despite only one trip to the Western Conference Finals with the Blazers, Lillard’s loyalty to the cause never wavered. If the Blazers can’t build a championship-caliber team around him, Lillard may be forced to explore his alternatives.
The Blazers will face some tough decisions this summer, and their success will be determined by their ability to put together a championship-caliber team. Lillard’s commitment to the Blazers is unwavering, but his desire to win a title may lead him to reconsider his options in the future.
Lillard was awarded third team All-American honors in college basketball in 2012 while playing for the Weber State Wildcats. He was honored with NBA Rookie of the Year shortly after being chosen by the legendary Portland team in the 2012 NBA draft. Lillard acquired the nickname “Dame Time” for his penchant for scoring clutch baskets at key moments in games. He is the only player in Trail Blazers history to have been chosen for seven NBA All-Star games and six All-NBA Team selections.
