Anthony Davis, representing the LA Lakers, and Joel Embiid, of the Philadelphia 76ers, were named the Kia NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Month for their outstanding performances in March and April.
Davis receives his first monthly award of the season and the third of his career. Over the two months, he averaged 26.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, helping the Lakers to a 14-6 record, the best in the league. Davis scored in double figures in 17 of his 18 games, including 11 games with more than 20 points, eight games with more than 30 points and one game with more than 40 points. He also had 11 double-doubles and two games with 20 or more rebounds.
Embiid won the monthly award for the third time this season and the seventh time in his career. He also became the first player since the 2019-20 season to receive the award three times in a single season, and the first 76er to do so. With an average of 33.3 points and 1.9 blocks in 18 games played between March and April, the Sixers star has just won his second consecutive NBA scoring title. Over those two months, he also led all players with 599 points.
Embiid cemented his position as Kia’s MVP candidate with his third 50-point game of the 2022-23 season. He scored 52 points in the Sixers’ 103-101 win over the Boston Celtics. Embiid’s incredible performance also made him the third Sixers player in history to have three 50-point games in a single season.
This season, Davis and Embiid have been fundamental to the success of their respective teams, and their recent performances have further confirmed their position as two of the best players in the league. The Lakers and Sixers will definitely be relying on the skills of their star players as they enter the playoffs in the coming weeks.
