Sevilla FC has expressed its deep concern and opposition to many of the refereeing decisions made this season regarding the yellow and red cards issued to its players. The club published an angry statement, citing a serious loss in the league as a result of many of the decisions.
The team are currently fighting relegation and have already changed their coach after drawing 2-2 with Celta de Vigo, in which a player was sent off. As well as poor performances on the pitch, they have also suffered from bad refereeing decisions.
“Sevilla FC are clearly not an aggressive team, which is why these statistics are alarming”
the club said in a statement. The club also pointed out that it has received the most red cards in La Liga this season, despite being 14th in the league in the number of fouls committed, with just 329.
As well as expressing their concern at the number of cards issued to their players, Sevilla also highlighted the fact that La Liga has seen more than three times as many red cards this season than the Premier League. The Spanish want the figures analyzed and steps taken to improve consistency.
Sevilla has always respected referees, understanding the challenges that come with the role of referee. However, the club believes that many of the decisions regarding the cards issued to its players have harmed its position in the league.
The club wants La Liga to analyze the statistics and take measures to ensure consistency in the application of the rules. Sevilla are not alone in their concerns about refereeing decisions in La Liga, with other clubs also expressing their dissatisfaction with some of the decisions made this season.
In the long term, the club hopes that these concerns will be resolved and that its players will be able to compete on a level playing field. With the season coming to an end, it remains to be seen whether any changes will be made as a result of Sevilla’s complaints.
