AC Milan standout Rafael Leão continues to generate interest across Europe, with Chelsea the latest club to be linked with the Portuguese sensation. Leao shone most recently during Milan’s 4-0 thrashing of Serie A leaders Napoli, and with his current contract set to expire in 2023, the Italian giants are hoping to find a resolution on a contract extension until the end of the current campaign.
Leão is about to enter the final year of his contract with Milan and the club has reacted to reports that negotiations over an extension have stalled. The 23-year-old striker has been in excellent form, scoring 11 goals and providing a further 10 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions during the current season.
AC Milan director Frederic Massara recently provided an update on Leao’s contract situation, as he remains confident of finding a solution.
Speaking to Sky Italia, Massara revealed that there are some ‘complexities’, but the club is trying to ensure that it doesn’t allow a future star to enter the last 12 months of his contract.
“There’s a mutual desire to renew and it’s a good basis. There are particularities, but we are facing them with confidence in the hope of finding a solution by the end of the season” he said.
“Doing percentages is a bit difficult: you either do it or you don’t, it’s always 50-50. Of course, by the end of the season we’ll have to find out if there’s a possibility of extending the season.” added Massara.
Rafael Leão’s lawyer recently insisted that the player is happy in the Italian capital and, considering Chelsea’s recent spending on players such as Christopher Nkunku and David Fofana, among others, it remains to be seen whether the Premier League will make a concrete move for the Portuguese sensation.
