Borna Goyo – Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic showed no inclination for another grueling five-set match at the US Open on Sunday night. He decisively saw off the challenge of strong Croatian qualifier Borna Gojo with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 win and secured his 57th Grand Slam quarter-final appearance.

Just two days after his remarkable comeback from a two-set deficit against fellow Serb Laslo Djere in their third round clash, Djokovic patiently absorbed a barrage of attacks from Gojo’s baseline. This resilience led him to his 13th US Open quarter-final in 17 appearances.
Djokovic will face Taylor Fritz in the next quarter-final.

In the women’s singles, Jelena Ostapenko beat Iga Swiatek, the defending champion and world number one at the US Open. She recovered from a one-set deficit to secure a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory.
With this achievement, Swiatek’s 75-week reign as number one came to an end. The last time they met, in February in Dubai, was Swiatek’s final defeat before starting her 37-match winning streak. After the US Open, Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka will rise to the top of the rankings for the first time in her career.

Jennifer Brady/ Luisa Stephanie – Tatjana Maria/ Arantxa Rus
In a non-league match, American Jennifer Brady and Brazilian Luisa Stefani beat the duo of German Tatjana Maria and Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, securing a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory in a marathon that lasted an hour and 48 minutes. This guaranteed them a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Polish-American duo M. Linette/B. Pera, who eliminated the Americans S. Chang/A. Parks by 7-6 and 6-2.
The Brazilian from São Paulo has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament in women’s doubles for the third time in her career.
- In 2021, she reached the semi-finals of the US Open, playing with Gabriela Dabrowski, but injured her knee and was out of the game for a year.
- This season, the 14th racket in the world reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, playing with Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia.
