The Brazilian basketball team, which was eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage, is now clinging to the prospect of competing in the Paris Olympics. Although his World Cup adventure took an unexpected turn, his Olympic ambitions remained unaffected.
It’s worth remembering that, after losing to Latvia in the last round, the Brazilians could still qualify for the Games. To do so, Spain had to beat Canada in a parallel match, but the world champions lost.
Now, in order to win a trip to Paris, the Brazilian team led by coach Gustavo de Conti must perform admirably at next year’s Pre-Olympics, with the aim of finishing among the top four teams. The specific date and venue for the Olympic qualifying competition have yet to be set, which is adding to the team’s preparations.
Brazil is one of 20 nations guaranteed a place in the competition, including Egypt, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Spain, Montenegro, Dominican Republic, Greece, Georgia, Finland, Lebanon, Philippines, Mexico, Angola, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Bahamas, Bahrain, Poland and Croatia. The pre-Olympic tournament will add four more teams, bringing the total number of countries participating in Olympic basketball to 12.
France, South Sudan, the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia are among the six nations that have already confirmed their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games. France, in particular, acquired the honor of hosting the basketball event as a result of its excellent performance in the World Cup. This sets the scene for an intense and entertaining basketball competition in Paris.
The 2024 Olympics will feature 32 sports, including five new additions: breakdancing, surfing, sport climbing, skateboarding and karate. The spectacular show will begin with the opening ceremony at the landmark Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, and end at the same venue.
Preparations are underway to ensure the comfort and convenience of more than 11,000 athletes from over 200 countries who will compete in the 2024 Olympic Games.
