On the deadline day of the 2023 transfer window, many big moves were completed by top clubs across Europe. Manchester City have completed the signing of Matheus Nunes from Wolves in a record £53 million deal. The Premier League champions raised their total summer spending to £216.1 million with the arrivals of Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic and Jeremy Doku at the start of the window. Nunes, 25, was Wolves’ record signing, although he made clear his intentions to sign for the Premier League champions.
Manchester United were not far behind and completed the signing of Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. The Fiorentina player joins the Old Trafford club on a season-long loan deal for 10 million euros, with an option to buy for 20 million euros + an additional 5 million euros next year.
Erik ten Hag’s side also signed Sergio Reguilon on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. There is no buy-out clause, United signed the Spaniard to cover Luke Shaw’s injury.
Paris Saint-Germain, for their part, continued to spend little. The Parisians have completed the signing of Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt for 90 million euros, and the Frenchman has signed a contract until 2028. Muani becomes the 11th major signing for the Ligue 1 giants this summer, following the high-profile arrivals of Marco Asensio and Ousmane Dembele, among others.
Barcelona have also signed two high-profile loan deals: the Catalan side have signed Man City full-back João Cancelo on a season-long loan, with no option to buy included in the deal. Likewise, João Félix also arrived on a season-long loan, with no option to buy, from Atlético Madrid.
There were many other deals that took place on deadline day: former Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz went to Sevilla, Mason Greenwood was loaned to Getafe by Man United after the reaction to the player’s reinstatement at Old Trafford. Brennan Johnson joined Tottenham in a £47 million package from Nottingham Forest, with a contract signed until 2029.
Barça loaned Eric Garcia to Girona and Abde to Real Betis, while Rob Holding left Arsenal to join Crystal Palace for a fee of £4 million.
