Injuries in soccer can often make or break a club’s fortunes in a given season, as has been evident on several occasions. However, Botafogo striker Tiquinho Soares, currently suffering from a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, is making surprising progress on the road to recovery, a promising sign for Fogão.
In a recent development, Tiquinho joined the U-20 team and the non-selected players for a training session, as reported by several reputable sources close to the club. Although the player is undoubtedly improving, his availability for the upcoming clash against Flamengo in the Campeonato Brasileiro remains uncertain. The match is scheduled for Saturday at the Nilton Santos Stadium. Botafogo initially drew up a five-week recovery plan for the talented striker, who has been undergoing intensive treatment in recent weeks. His absence has been felt since August 6, when he suffered the injury during a match against Cruzeiro at the Mineirão.
Notably, Tiquinho Soares is the top scorer in the Campeonato Brasileiro, having scored an impressive 13 goals. While the soccer world eagerly awaits his return to full fitness, it remains to be seen when this prolific goalscorer will be back on the pitch, ready to make an impact.
However, the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A leaders have signed striker Diego Costa, a former Spain international. Costa, who is Brazilian, joined Botafogo after terminating his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. The experienced striker spent a season at the English club, without much success, before moving on. He made his presence felt as soon as he arrived at the club, making a huge contribution in the Fogão’s 3-0 win over Bahia, when he scored twice at the Nilton Santos Stadium.
After a disappointing defeat to Defensa y Justicia of Argentina in the Copa Sudamericana, Botafogo will now focus solely on the league as they face Flamengo at home.
