Rafael MATOS/Cabral – Vliegen/Gilles Marcelo – 3:6, 7:6, 6:4
The Brazilian and Portuguese duo Rafael MATOS/Cabral secured a captivating victory in a race that lasted more than two hours. After losing easily in the first set, the pair pulled off a brilliant comeback to level the second set in a tie-break. They managed to survive the test of nerves and ended up winning the match 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4. In the next round (which will be 1/16), on September 1, they will play the Dutch-Australian duo Griekspoor/Kokkinakis.
Rafael MATOS: “The opener was a great win against a pair who are having a great season, they’ve been playing together for a long time. They played very well in the first set. Until halfway through the second half they were superior. It was important that we held three games of serve in the second set, even though they were long. After the tie-break in the second set we played better and made the difference.”
DEMOLINER/Bhambri – Nysa/Zelinsky – 3:6, 5:7
