This fight was announced as the main event of UFC 292 in Boston. Sean O’Malley’s rise to fame continued with his knockout victory over Aljamain Sterling to win the welterweight title on Saturday. O’Malley secured the win with an impeccable right hand that sent Sterling to the canvas at the start of the second round, culminating in a technical knockout victory over the Jamaican-American fighter.
This result was accompanied by Zhang Weili’s title defense against Amanda Lemos in the co-main event.
Zhang Weili (China) vs. Amanda Lemos (BRAZIL)
Zhang Weili successfully defended her UFC strawweight title against Brazil’s Amanda Lemos with a unanimous decision (50-43, 50-44 and 49-45) in the main card of UFC 292.
From the start, Zhang took an aggressive approach, securing an early takedown and maintaining dominant control on top. In a climactic moment at the end of the first round, Lemos almost secured victory with a D’Arce choke, but Zhang managed to regain the upper hand.

During the following rounds, Zhang solidified his control, showing off his comprehensive set of MMA skills. In the last round, Zhang threw an emphatic right punch, sending Lemos to the canvas and coming close to a knockout. Moving into a modified crucifix position, Zhang unleashed a flurry of ground-and-pound blows, asserting his authority until the final bell.
Marlon Vera (Ecuador) vs. Pedro Munhoz (BRAZIL)
When Vera and Munhoz faced each other in the octagon, the bantamweight division clash turned into a technical clash of blows. The opening round saw Munhoz’s aggressive punch combinations countered by Vera’s evasive manoeuvres, which dictated the pace of the fight.
In the next round, Munhoz began throwing frantic combinations that were answered with quick blows from Vera. Later, the Brazilian competitor resorted to distance attacks with kicks to the calf, while Vera responded with impactful jabs.
Vera’s consistent use of left jabs began to affect Munhoz in the third and final round, resulting in visible and bloody damage to the Brazilian’s face. The final round showed Vera’s dominance, making a clear statement in Boston. After the third round, the judges’ scorecards unanimously favored Vera, with scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
