In an unexpected twist, Bob Myers, former president and general manager of the Golden State Warriors, is apparently returning to the basketball scene, but in a new position. The spotlight that once shone on him as a crucial factor in the development of a winning basketball team will now shine on him as an analyst on ESPN’s popular “NBA Countdown” program, according to a recent story in the New York Post.
Myers left his job at the Warriors after 11 years, declaring that his career was not over. He seems to be joining the updated “NBA Countdown” lineup. This comes as Oakland’s Malika Andrews is set to take over as the show’s new host, succeeding Mike Greenberg, whose departure is part of a series of recent layoffs at ESPN.
The changes in this emblematic program represent a change in the panorama of NBA broadcasts, with the departure of established characters such as Jalen Rose. With Myers on board, the “NBA Countdown” conversations should be exceptionally enlightening, especially with regard to his former club. According to league insider Shams Charania, the Warriors’ NBA season opener against the Phoenix Suns on October 24 will be a highlight.
This much-anticipated clash will not only give fans the chance to see the debut of new Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr, but will also mark Kevin Durant’s long-awaited return to the Bay Area. Durant’s last appearance at the Chase Center was in 2021, when the venue was empty due to COVID-19 limitations, giving this upcoming game his first opportunity to reunite with Bay Area fans since leaving the Warriors in the summer of 2019.
As Myers settles into his new role as an analyst and the NBA season begins, the basketball world eagerly awaits the fresh perspectives he will bring to the airwaves, providing fans with a deeper understanding of the game and his unique insights into the Warriors’ journey in the 2023-2024 season.
