Olimpia Asuncion (Par) – FLAMENGO (Bra) – 3:1
After a 1-0 home win, Flamengo quickly opened the scoring in the away match. Eight minutes into the first half, Arrascaeta took a free-kick from Bruno Enrique. The two-goal lead should have calmed Sampaoli’s side down, but apparently the mood in the team isn’t the best right now. Just four minutes later, Ivan Torres beat Matheus Cunha to make it 1-1. When a team recovers quickly, it usually boosts morale. The opponent, on the other hand, is starting to get more nervous. Perhaps a goal in the 31st minute would have restored Flamengo’s confidence, but it was disallowed for offside.
We don’t know what happened in the team dressing room during the break (although Pedro’s story is still fresh)… But at the start of the second half, Jorge Sampaoli received a second yellow card for his intemperance and was sent off. Tell me, was there a reason for the technician’s behavior? At the time, his team was leading the aggregate of two matches. But, as we’ve seen, you can lose that advantage in just eleven minutes. Two similar goals were scored in the 69th and 80th minutes – Richard Ortiz and Facundo Bruera heading in from a corner – 3:1.
Gabriel scored in the 91st minute – the game could have gone to penalties, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside. It’s probably fair. Olimpia confidently won their place in the quarter-finals, where they will play Fluminense.
As for Flamengo, the team needs to sort out what’s going on inside the club. If the problems are solved, in the second half of the championship you can try to catch up with Botafogo. Mengão are currently in second place, 13 points behind the leaders. Flamengo are also still in the Copa do Brasil. In the first leg of the semi-final, he beat Gremio 2-0.
By the way, in the current Copa Libertadores, Flamengo earned 7 million 450 thousand dollars (for participation in the group stage – 3 million, for five wins in the group – 1.5 million, for reaching the round of 16 – 1.25 million, for the quarter-finals – 1.7 million).
RACING CLUB (Arg) – Atl. Nacional (Col) – 3:0
In a dramatic turnaround, Racing produced a remarkable comeback on their home pitch in Avellaneda, recovering to beat Atlético Nacional 3-0 and secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores. The Argentinian side’s impressive victory sent them through to the next stage of the tournament, where they will face arch-rivals Boca Juniors in a highly anticipated national derby.
Unlike the previous game in Medellín (in Colombia, the club lost 2-4), Racing showed renewed attacking vigour, pressuring Atlético Nacional at the back. The first goal was scored quickly by Roger Martínez, who took advantage of a header close to the Colombian goalkeeper, sparking Racing’s resurgence in the 28th minute. The momentum continued in the closing stages of the match, with Ojeda scoring the second goal in the opening minutes. The decisive moment came 11 minutes into the final period, when an unfortunate deflection from Felipe Aguirre sent the ball into his own net, solidifying Racing’s triumphant 3-0 lead.
