Mason Greenwood, the young Manchester United talent who was suspended from the club for allegedly assaulting his partner in an incident before the start of the 2022/23 Premier League season, could return to play in England’s top flight. Recently, most of the main charges brought by the Crown Prosecution Service were dropped, after which the authorities admitted that the case no longer had a realistic prospect of conviction. The serious charges that were brought against Greenwood included allegations of rape and assault on his partner, which have now been dropped.
The dropping of the charges also suggests the potential possibility of a return to soccer for the player, who has not taken part in a competitive match since the news broke. Although the police indicated that the investigation had been concluded, Manchester United announced that it would conduct its own investigation, the verdict of which is still under wraps. Recently, there have been several reports that Greenwood has been cleared of the charges against him and is ready to return to Old Trafford.
According to reports, Erik Ten Hag considers Greenwood one of United’s brightest talents and is keen to bring him back into action if he is found not guilty. The possibility of a temporary loan has also been discussed, although no concrete option is available at the moment.
As Manchester United unveiled a major $1.1 billion deal with sportswear manufacturer Adidas, there have been rumors that the club will make a decision on Greenwood’s future before the start of the Premier League season. Apparently, United have already made the decision and are assessing the right moment to make the announcement. They face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first Premier League game at home on August 14.
