Zenit’s dynamic Brazilian winger Malcom has caught the eye of Al-Hilal with his impressive progress. The Saudi Arabian club took an important step by announcing the signing of the 26-year-old, closing the deal for a substantial 60 million euros. It certainly brings joy to the young footballer, but also to Corinthians, which is entitled to a share of the profits.
Thanks to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, Corinthians will receive 2.5% of the total transfer fee, which equates to a significant 1.5 million euros. This mechanism was created to reward clubs that contribute to the development of talented players and, in this case, Corinthians rightfully benefits due to Malcom’s formative years at the club, between the ages of 12 and 19.
Malcom’s journey began when he left his hometown as a teenager, impressing everyone in São Paulo. He played a crucial role in Corinthians’ triumphant 2015 Brasileirão campaign before taking his talents to Bordeaux in 2016 for a fee of 5 million euros.
Initially, Corinthians kept 15% of his rights, but later decided to sell part of the provision, keeping 2.5%. Malcom continued to excel during his two and a half years in Ligue 1 before securing a high-profile transfer to Barcelona in the summer of 2018 for a staggering 41 million euros. However, his time at Barcelona didn’t go as planned, leading him to join Zenit the following season.
In Russia, Malcom has found a new vigour, and his exceptional performances have played an important role in Zenit’s many victories. Last season, he showed his ability to score goals, finishing top scorer in the Russian Premier League with an impressive 23 goals in 27 games. These outstanding performances not only caught the eye of Al-Hilal, but also earned him his debut for the national team, representing Brazil in June. Corinthians’ role in nurturing and shaping Malcom’s talent has proved rewarding for the club, which is now benefiting from his lucrative transfer to Al-Hilal.
