Fluminense continued to struggle away from home in the Brazilian Championship as they were beaten 2-0 by Coritiba
at Couto Pereira on Monday night. In his post-match press conference, coach Fernando Diniz admitted that the result was fair and praised Coritiba’s current form, despite being in the relegation zone.
Diniz acknowledged that Coritiba were on an upward trajectory, with three good performances in recent games, including two wins and a draw against Cruzeiro. He emphasized that his team made things easy for their opponents, especially in the first half, offering counter-attacking opportunities that they knew they couldn’t afford.
The goals conceded by Fluminense were the result of quick transition moves, with a penalty for the first goal and a defensive error leading to the second. Despite the mistakes, Diniz believed his team had the potential to secure a draw or even a win, but praised Coritiba’s resilient defense, which denied Fluminense’s chances in the second half.
Fluminense faced the game without two important players, Cano and Marcelo, but Diniz didn’t want to attribute the defeat solely to their absence. Although he recognizes the importance of both players, he said that the defeat was the result of crucial mistakes made at inopportune moments.
Looking ahead, Fluminense will need to regroup and work on their defensive discipline and attacking precision to improve their away performance in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The team remains determined to recover and continue its fight for a higher position in the standings.
