According to reports in several leading Brazilian media outlets, Uruguayan star Michael Santos is set to move to Brazil. Vasco da Gama are getting closer to securing the services of the center-forward, and it is believed that a deal is already in the works. The 30-year-old Uruguayan, currently under contract with Argentinian club Talleres, was absent from the team for Monday’s league match against Gimnasia Y Esgrima, which reinforces the possibility of a transfer.
The negotiation process between Vasco and the player has progressed well, with salary terms already agreed. The club is now anxiously awaiting a response from Talleres. Michael Santos himself spoke to Talleres officials and his agents, expressing a keen interest in moving to Brazil.
On Sunday, there was an important meeting between Michael Santos and the directors of the Argentine club, and it seems that Talleres are willing to part with the striker. All that remains now is for the two clubs to reach a mutual agreement. Vasco’s main focus is to strengthen their attacking options. Currently, their attacking line has been the least productive in the Campeonato Brasileiro, managing to score just 11 goals so far – a dubious distinction considering that Botafogo striker Tiquinho Soares, who leads the race for the league’s top scorer title, has outscored the entire team.
The addition of Santos will be a smart acquisition in many ways. Due to his excellent form, with 18 goals scored in the Argentine Professional Championship, his arrival will immediately increase Vasco’s attacking capacity. In addition, his immense experience, thanks to a long career that has included spells at River Plate, Málaga, Sporting Gijón and Leganés, will be a welcome addition to the team.
After a break from their usual routine, Vasco’s squad will return to training on Tuesday as they prepare for the 17th matchday of the Brazilian Championship. The team will face Corinthians on Saturday at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo.
