Manchester City won the league title three times last season and, despite the departure of key players such as Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrezwho is closing in on a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli, the Cityzens are showing no signs of slowing down as they have reportedly agreed a fee with RB Leipzig for Josko Gvardiol.
The Croatian central defender, who is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the world, has been strongly linked with City in recent weeks. After having already agreed terms with the player, the Premier League giants were in negotiations with Leipzig over the fee, as the Bundesliga club were wanting a “world record fee”.
According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal is close to completion as Gvardiol has already completed the first part of his medical and the second part should also be done this week.
The defender would be City’s second summer signing, following the arrival of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.
Riyad Mahrez has agreed terms with Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli and the deal is expected to be completed before the end of the week. The Algerian has already signed a contract until June 2027 and City are expected to receive a fee of 35 million euros with add-ons included.
João Cancelo is another player who should leave City. However, the Portuguese is expected to travel to Japan with the rest of the team, as he is still awaiting confirmation of his next move.
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has hinted that he hopes to remain at PSG and fulfill the remainder of his contract, despite reports that the club wants to sell the Brazilian.
When asked about his future, Neymar told Brazilian media outlet CazeTV: “I hope it’s at PSG (next season). I have a contract, nobody has told me anything. Even if there isn’t much love between the fans and the player, I’ll be there (at PSG), love or no love.”
