Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has assured the team’s fans that striker Harry Kane isn’t going anywhere and that he remains “committed”, despite being linked with Bayern Munich. Postecoglou also appears to have rebutted Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, who recently claimed that the Bavarians were “confident” of concluding a deal for Kane.
During a recent press conference in Perth ahead of Spurs’ first pre-season friendly against West Ham United, Postecoglou revealed that he’d had a chat with the in-demand striker and that it hadn’t been “devastating”, contrary to what many fans might think.
England’s captain and record goalscorer has just one year left on his contract and has been linked with a departure. Bayern are leading the race to sign him, after two bids for Kane were rejected.
“I had a good chat with Harry,” said the Australian coach.
“It was nothing extraordinary, as people are looking for. It was just a nice chat, I introduced myself and we talked mainly about the club, its situation and what he thinks could be improved” he added.
According to various reports, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has met with Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen to discuss Kane’s transfer, but the Premier League side remain reluctant to part with their prized asset.
The star striker scored 30 league goals last season, and Postecoglou is confident that Kane’s success will continue in north London.
“He’s here and, as long as he’s here, he’s totally committed to what we’re doing, and that’s how I see it,” added the former Celtic manager, who won the title three times last year with the Scottish side.
The 57-year-old also criticized Bayern for commenting on a player who is still contracted to Spurs.
“Nobody from Munich spoke to me. If other clubs want to talk about our contracted players, that’s more of a problem for them than for us” added Postecoglou.
Tottenham were beaten 3-2 by West Ham in their first pre-season friendly and are scheduled to fly to Thailand for their next game against Leicester City on July 23.
