Losing 0-1 away from home
Corinthians hosted América MG. There was one really dangerous moment in the first half for the visitors. Just before the break, in the 45th minute, Nicolas Vichiatto hit the crossbar with his head after a cross from the side. If America had gone 2-0 up on aggregate before the second half, the rest of the game would have been different. But in the dressing room Vanderlei Luxemburgo had a serious talk with the Corinthians players, and in the 49th minute Renato Augusto put the hosts ahead. After Fagner’s clearance, he headed the ball beautifully into the top right-hand corner: 1-0.
In the 66th minute, Ruan spotted Yuuri Alberto, slipping a pass through his legs to make it 2-0. According to the sum of the two matches, Corinthians took the lead. Three minutes later, América reduced their lead. Cássio failed to save Martin Benitez’s shot, 2-1. Three minutes later, Roger Guedes pleased the Corinthians fans once again. After a corner kick, he closed down the ball with his head on the drop; 3-1. Apparently, mentally, the hosts already saw themselves in the semi-finals, as they conceded a goal in the 83rd minute. Martin Benitez found Gonzalo Mastriani: 3-2.
The series of post-match penalties was opened by América; Gonzalo Mastriani hit exactly in the center. Fabio Santos responded with a shot into the bottom right corner (Pasinato almost saved).
Second shot; Marcinho shot over the bar, and Giuliano sent the ball calmly into the right corner. 2-1 in favor of Corinthians.
Third shot; Paulinho Boia shot badly (into the center of the goal). No wonder Cássio saved. Adson responded with a similar shot and Pasinato made the save.
Fourth blow; Cassio couldn’t guess what Martin Benitez was going to hit in the center of the goal, but in the fall he managed to get his foot out! After that, Yuri Alberto should have scored, which he did.
In the semi-finals, Corinthians will play São Paulo. July 25 at home in Neo Química and August 16 in Morumbi. In the second double-header, Gremio and Flamengo, the reigning Cup champions, will contest the final.

Corinthians were fined R$60,000 by the 4th Disciplinary Commission of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) for an unfortunate incident involving their fans.
During the match against Cuiabá, in the 10th round of the Brasileirão
a nail clipper was thrown at Deyverson, which prompted the disciplinary action. The fine is subject to appeal, which gives Corinthians the chance to challenge the decision.
The STJD ruled that Corinthians violated article 213, III, of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code (CBJD), which establishes that clubs must take measures to prevent and deal with the throwing of objects onto the pitch or the site of a sporting event.
The incident occurred in the 35th minute, when Deyverson, playing for Cuiabá, scored the first goal. Referee André Luiz Skettino Policarpo Bento included the incident in his match report, stating that metal scissors had been thrown from the home supporters’ section. The object was promptly handed over to the fourth official.
