Tyler Herro, who just signed a four-year, $130 million contract with the Miami Heat, is making headlines as trade discussions heat up. Despite being awarded the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2022, Herro is expected to be traded before next season.
The Miami Heat are interested in getting Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard. However, considering the group of young point guards they already have, the Trail Blazers don’t seem to be interested in adding Lillard to their roster. The Heat are aggressively seeking a third team to enter talks in order to close a possible deal. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, there seems to be huge interest in the services of the skillful playmaker.
“When I talk to teams around the league,” says Charania, “there’s a structure with Miami where Portland could end up with three, four or at least several first-round draft picks.” I’m not sure if it will reach four. Miami have two players available for exchange. I believe several clubs would trade at least a first-round pick for Tyler Herro. So you may be looking for expired contracts, three first-round picks, or maybe more. Maybe other assets, exchanges.
While the Trail Blazers may not be immediately interested in acquiring Herro, it is almost certain that he will be part of any trade package that brings Lillard to Miami. Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin emphasized that the team is ready to be patient and wait for the right opportunity, even if it takes months.
During his time in the league, the young shooting guard has shown great promise. Herro was chosen for the NBA All-first team in 2020 after helping the Heat reach the NBA Finals in his first season. His ability to score, especially from beyond the arc, has caught the eye, and his strong ball handling and distribution skills add to his potential reputation.
Tyler Herro’s future is in jeopardy as trade negotiations heat up. Although he has yet to establish himself as a superstar, his talent and potential have piqued the curiosity of several NBA clubs.
